Welcome to the Process Observatory – an introduction
From now on the Process Observatory blog will be published exclusively on the Excubate website and will be our forum to discuss and comment on business process management issues in the context of transformation and digitalization.
As process management seems to be reclaiming at least some of the management attention it lost over the past 10 years, we thought it was time for us to do our bit by giving the topic a dedicated space.
For readers new to the Process Observatory or any of my past published works, let me introduce myself first. I have worked on process management topics for over 25 years, starting as head of a research lab on computer supported cooperative work at a German University, then as director of the global workflow consulting division at a well-known consulting company until I set up my own process consulting company which I ran for over 10 years. In 2018 I joined Excubate in an advisory capacity, first providing support on process delivery strategies until I formally moved to the permanent and fixed position as Senior Partner on the management team.
Long-term engagements for international clients have contributed to my deep understanding of the process management discipline over the years. I was also fortunate in being exposed to the multiple and diverse and often difficult relationships between business cultures, management practices and national cultures around the world which is why I regard change management as the twin brother of process management.
In the past, the Process Observatory served as my personal cynical outlet for my growing frustration with the lax and often laissez-faire handling of processes in the business world. As this blog is now a link between the readers and Excubate, I will at least try to be more diplomatic and constructive.
What can readers expect from the Process Observatory?
The first clue is in the name. We will observe and discuss how companies are dealing with the dual challenge of digitalization on the one hand and the impact on the design, operations and management of their processes.
We will also comment on developments on organizational and technological topics as far as they relate to digitalization and processes.
I hope that many of you will become regular readers of this blog and also gain a better understanding of why we do what we do at Excubate.
Stay tuned for the first proper post of the Excubate Process Observatory
